Storytelling- Connecting with people emotionally and being able to tell a story and make a point is at the heart of public speaking. Your story must make a clear point, be compelling, succinct (no rambling or unneeded details), and be interesting. Rate your ability to create this type of story.

Storytelling for Sales- Your stories should do your selling for you. Do you now how to create a story that sells for you without sounding like you’re selling.

Connecting the Dots-Every presentation is selling something whether it is product, service, or simply selling your audience on the benefit of listening to your message. It’s not enough to give people information; you must connect the dots and tell them why they should care about your information (What’s in it for them).



Ex: 1) In the next 30 minutes you are going to learn the 3 step formula for opening your talk (this is an informational example, most speakers say things like this.) or 2) In the next 30 min you will learn the 3 step formula for commanding the attention of your audience from the first words out of your mouth (this is connecting the dots and telling them why they should care)! Please rate how often you currently use this type of language and your skill level in knowing how to convert informational language into compelling/connect the dots language.


Make an Offer- In order to bring in leads/business through speaking you must have a definite next step (an offer) you want your audiences to take immediately following their presentation. Do you know how to create a clear offer that compels people to sign up on the spot vs. ask for your card or do nothing. Rate your ability to create a clear, compelling offer.


Open with a Bang-Most speakers waste the first 30 seconds of their talk saying things like: Thank you for having me, it’s great to be here, etc. In order to command the attention of your audience and get them hanging on your every word you must open with a bang. Rate your ability to create a talk that Opens with a Bang.

Dynamic Delivery- You must draw your audience in with dynamic delivery skills that keep audiences engaged, energized, and wanting more. Rate your delivery skills.

Pulling it all together-In order to bring in leads/business through speaking you must build your entire speech around getting your audiences excited for your offer. Every part of the speech is strategically placed from the first words out of your mouth to your closing words. Your talk must flow smoothly so it does not sound like one part education and one part sales pitch. Rate your ability to create a talk that smoothly flows and educates, entertains, and sells.
